Sumithra Fernando is an established entrepreneur in the boat building sector of Sri Lanka having entered the industry in 1989. He is the Founder and Managing Director of Dhanusha Group of Companies which is a group of companies in the boat building industry catering to the country’s booming nautical tourism, recreational boating and commercial fishing industry.

Under his initiative, Dhanusha Marine currently exports their boats and other products to many countries around the globe including Norway, South Korea, Australia, Maldives, Seychelles, Tanzania and Mauritius from the company’s factories in Kalutara, Moratuwa and Beruwala.

He acts as the one of the leading members in the boat manufacturing industry in the country. He has been appointed as a sector representative and director in a number of associations & chambers related to the industry. This includes being the Advisory committee sector chairman of ministry of industries, Advisory Committee member of the Export Development Board, Executive Council member of the National Chamber of Exporters, Director/ sector chairman of the Chamber of Marine Industries, Sector chairman of Boat & Marine industry in the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka and Director of Kalutara district Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture.

His ultimate vision is to make Sri Lanka’s boat and ship building industry one of the most prominent foreign exchange earning industries utilizing the widely available resources in the country and to make Sri Lanka a hub for nautical tourism in the Asian region.
