This information system\, which acts as a central database for the industrial sector\, contains information including details of industries operating in Sri Lanka\, business classification\, legal status\, registration information\, UN classification\, industry scale\, production data\, raw material use\, market coverage\, employment\, energy and fuel consumption\, waste management and disposal methods. Industrialists can register for this National Industrial Information System by creating their own user account or by submitting information through authorized government officials\, and after registration\, an official certificate is issued to the industry recognizing it as a registered entity in the National Industrial Database. A special feature of this information system is that registered industries are required to update their business information annually. This will provide the opportunity to make decisions based on more accurate information when making policy decisions in the industrial sector. Minister Sunil Handunnethi said that the Ministry of Industries has initiated the first step towards digitizing the country’s industries and that this new National Industrial Information System will act as a valuable tool for policy formulation\, market research\, competitive analysis and strategic planning\, paving the way for Sri Lanka’s industrial sector to achieve sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
