To develop a quality management system in this Ministry of Industrial Development, the ministry has taken steps to obtain ISO 9001 : 2000 which will vital to create pleasant atmosphere to the investors, who visits the ministry with the purpose of getting assistance to invest in the industrial field or to sort their problems with existing industries. |

Implementation of the productivity improvement programme in the industrial sector. |
Productivity improvement programme is vital to prepare the manufacture industrialist to sustain and meet the competitiveness in the global market by increasing of the productivity. It helps the industries to maximise the profit margin by reducing the average production cost. These programmes will also help to recognise the local industries among the international buyers. By considering these facts the Ministry of Industrial development has initiated a programme to enhance the productivity in ten factories as a pilot programme, then it would be extended. Three out of these ten factories have been targeted to win the quality award at the end of the programme and it will also be the model factories to demonstrate to the other factories to motivate the local industries to adopt quality management system. In this regard this ministry will call the applications from the large, medium and small scale industries very soon and thirty companies would be selected for a series of the awareness programme. Finally ten companies will be selected for the certification. This selection would be based on selection criteria, interest is shown by the management and employees of the companies. |
