INDUSTRIAL POLICY DIVISION

Objective

Promoting industries keeping in line with the government's economic policy framework and adopt the strategy for sustainable industrial development

Main Functions

	Policy related functions.
	Administrative and coordinating of the Regional Industrial Service Committees and Centres.
	Enhancing the export competitiveness of selected Industrial Sectors through the application of the Cleaner Production.
	Environment Industrial related functions.
	Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention in Sri Lanka.

Main Activities

	Guiding industrialization and establishing Industrial Estates in line with existing rules, regulations and international conventions.
	Environment friendly industrialization.
	Facilitation of industry through Cleaner Production (CP). Refer (www.ncpcsrilanka.org) for details.
	Guiding and monitoring activities of the National Cleaner Production Centre.

		Since 2003 NCPC has conducted -
		- 47 CP audits in industries, hotels and hospitals etc.
		65 Awareness Programmes to all sections.
		Trained 54 CP Resource Persons.
		Resource conservation and waste minimization programmes for Tea, Rubber, Desiccated Coconut, Apparels and Textiles, Metal Finishing, Rice Milling and Hotel Sector including Demonstration Plants.

	Environment Facilitation Programme for Industrial Estates and Regional Offices - 6 Factories in Kuruwita IE, 3 each in Homagama and Kolonnawa IE, 2 in Ratmalana IE, 1 in Minuwangoda undergoing the process. Awareness Programmes held in Kandy, Ratnapura, Dankotuwa in 2005.
	ISO 14000 Programme for Dankotuwa IE - covering 14 factories. Refer (www.dankotuwa-ie.com) for details.
	Eco Product Designs Programme - 4 product designs underway.
	Representing industrial concerns in about 30 Boards, Committees and Steering Committees covering areas of Land, Environment, Urban Development, and Infrastructure Development etc.
	Preparing Cabinet Papers and Policy related documents.
	Monitoring activities of implementation of Chemical Weapons Conventions through the National Authority.
	Facilitation of 8 Regional Industry Services Centres - in (Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Anuradhapura, Badulla and Trincomalee).
	Establishing and activating 8 Regional Industry Service Committees.
